Chili's comes to Chennai

Can a Tex-Mex survive the Chennai heat?
Hard to tell. Habanero, with quite decent food didn't survive. It really didn't do much wrong. OK, service was close to pathetic, but reviews in forums were thrashed. And anyone who dared to write something good about it was also thrashed. Honestly, service and attitude let them down, but the food wasn't bad. And the complaints were all about the food. So Tex-Mex and Chennai?

Welcome Chili's. I hope you survive this one!

I think it will!

So, the ambiance is a lot more happening and the music is nice and reflects the cuisine to a large extent. Chili's is in general more Tex than Mex and the Mex flavours are more of a foreplay. It is outwardly American and proud of it, so don't expect Mexican flavours to bombard your taste buds.

Clearly, the person who made our Guacamole on the table didn't do a great job. Clearly the chef in the kitchen knows how to make a Guac. So our on-the-table guac wasn't any good. We returned it and the one that came from the kitchen was more like it. Nachos. Bang on. Guac. On. Bring the rest on!

Glad they have the mix and match for starters, so you can take a pick of 3 or 5 starters from the page of a combo price. We picked Boneless Chicken Wings, Chicken Strips and Onion Rings. Chicken wings were tangy. Really tangy and I loved the flavours but missed celery sticks along with it. Would have been great. The chicken strips were large compared to most quick service places like KFC, but the onion rings are something that you may like or hate. I din't like it so much, my friend who came along loved it every bit. It is thick and flat and the batter is thick and there is more flour and batter than onion. I prefer the golden crispy ones! Drinks were large. All mocktails, obviously, but large portions. My pomegranate margarita was yum while my friend refused to share his. I won't know why, but will have to go back!

My friend who had the baby back ribs could not stop raving about it for a couple of days. I will leave it at that as I have no idea what it is. Since he wanted to have that, I had to order my own main course and between the burger and the fajita, I chose the latter. For Rs. 195 extra, the black beans and the rice add a lot more flavour to the fajita considering that these are not corn tortillas but flour tortilla. So with the add on beans, the guac, the rice and the grilled meat, the fajita was complete.

I forgot the name of the cake we had, but it was heavenly. Creamy, crunchy and soft across the layers, this was a fitting finish to the meal.

I want to go back and try the steaks and their burger!!! Express Avenue finally has an a real restaurant with great music!!! Meal for two will cost about Rs. 1500 but considering the portion size, a meal for 4 should cost your about Rs. 2500.

Again. Welcome Chili's.

Lobby to Kitchen Brunch, Gateway Hotel IT Expressway

There used to be a joke that was doing the rounds in food meet ups. 'I want the largest buffet with lot of non veg options with alcohol, max budget Rs. 500.' A popular stand up comedian in Chennai used this left right and centre. Food forums were flooded with these requests. In the era of the 5 star brunches priced upward of Rs. 2000 nett/, the joke may actually not work anymore. OK, not 500 bucks, but at 1300 bucks, the large Sunday Brunch at Gateway Taj is really LARGE.

It starts right at the lobby. Yep, you enter the hotel and food stares at you. Besides the large dessert section, there is a live counter doling out French Toasts and Crepes and the likes. I couldn't resist and despite recommendations from that chef to try these for dessert, I insisted on having them straight away. The cinnamon kissed French toast was fab! Unlike most places, this is a nice thick, almost French baguette that is dipped and served!! Besides the fact that few places actually serve breakfast in their brunch and serve a glorified lunch, it was nice to see breakfast stuff!!!

The problem with these large brunches is that everything tends to be okayish. You can take a couple of mouthful of everything and by the time you taste everything, you would be full! This wasn't the case here. The food was of quality and taste that is definitely better than most brunches in the city (OK, technically this is out side city, New Chennai, sort of).......

While there is no way to jot down every dish, there were some super favourites. The Broccoli Almond soup was yum. The Madurai dosa, essentially chicken/egg or both paste on the kal dosas were yum. The starters - a little cannelloni was nice. This stuffed zucchini and the grilled sweet potatoes were excellent.

Then the Indianised version of Eggs Benedict and Scottish Eggs, both with fully cooked yolks. Now that I have started enjoying the runny eggs, I thought these weren't great, but the chef said that people complained about eggs 'not being cooked properly,' so they've decided to cook them up. Can't fault that.

A smart South Indian section with rice, a yum biriyani and lots of gravies with six types of papads and four types of raithas. Really thought out well for the local population.

Disappointments? Yes. The cheese counter wasn't great. All hard cheeses and no soft cheese. The Japanese counter was extremely limited with only vegetarian sushi. Really? C'mon. But the honey glazed chicken from the Oriental kitchen (the other restaurant that is part of the Sunday brunch) was fabulous. Breads were also disappointing with not-so-great croissants and others. But with so many good things at a killer price point, one can't really complain.

Desserts are the weak links in most places and here they've made sure it doesn't happen as they have the live pancakes, crepes and toasts, so that is a safe haven. Besides, there were at least three biscuit type ones that were lovely.

You can take a dip in the pool if you want to. For free. Spa at 20% off. Considering the drive, this is like a long weekend drive up, soak up, massage up, eat up and get driven back. There is a little table for kids with an elaborate spread of finger foods, breads, mini pizzas, mini burgers for the kids.  I wasn't planning to take up the invite, but with a friend going and me not having to drive, I'm glad I went. Missed taking my swim shorts though and planning to take the family back soon.

P.S There is a live bar counter with a bar-tender who doles out cocktails and mocktails, the alcohol version is Rs. 1600 plus taxes.

Brick House Bistro

Burgers are storming Chennai! While fancy hotels are upping their burgers by a notch, like Park Hyatt, newer players are putting Hard Rock Cafe's Legendary burgers to shame! While a few places have made some noises in Facebook and Twitter, I had the chance to visit only Brick House Bistro a couple of days ago and slurp! That too because I had a scapegoat to drive. Yay!

Yeshwin, the brains behind BHB was associated with a start up pizza brand that saw a rapid growth, but one that did not sustain too long. I really hope he has learnt his lessons from that experience, because I would hate to see this wonderful place go down. Walking into this new bistro, I liked the stencil art of cooking greats like Heston and Marco Pierre White and the likes! Nice touch. The place is quite small and can seat about 30 I guess, but he has done the place up quite eclectically.

And now the food. Expectations were through the roof and I had been seeing photos of their burgers splashed all over the Chennai Food circle. I was waiting to be disappointed! But when the burger did arrive, it lived up to every review I read! Super juicy. Super tasty. No distractions. It was a simple well done beef patty burger. As simple as that. At a price of Rs 195 (without fries, add Rs. 60 for fries and salad), this was a winner all the way! Yep, the burger was good, but that should not take away anything from the hot dog! Slurp! Smoky and super soft and super flavourful, this was a nice hot dog! Lovely in every way. The king's club sandwich, which was very similar in taste to the hot dog did not catch my attention, but the other two were just mind blowing. Even if it was priced at twice the price, we don't think we would have thought any different.

Now the bad. The dessert. The Aunt Maria's Lemon Cheesecake, though wasn't awful, was pretty bad considering the standard of their main dishes. The base was so soggy that it was like a marie biscuit dipped in tea!

We paid Rs. 1450 for a double burger with fries and salad, a double hot dog, a king's club sandwich, two coffee shakes, a lemon cheesecake and a single burger takeaway for mummy! Tummy Khush.  Mummy Khush. Wallet also khush!

Brick House Bistro is located in Anna Nagar at No 9, S-Block, 6th Avenue, Anna Nagar East, Chennai

Cuckoo Club Diner

"When it comes to plating versus taste, taste wins hands down." I vividly remember the first Masterchef Australia season in which towards the end, the judges told the eliminated contestant those words. While plating is important to add a visual element, it should be to enhance an already good tasting dish and cannot make an average dish better! After seeing photos from diners, this place was on my to-eat list! Like I had to do it right now, types. The place is relatively young and going by an article in The Hindu, it is started by a passionate foodie who has returned from California.

First visit was with a bunch of friends. We started off with a reasonably bad garlic butter pretzel. Except the shape, nothing else was pretzel like. The consistency was wrong, but oh well. And then came a dish that was outstanding! A crumb fried zucchini. I don't know what went into the crumb, but that was a kicker of a dish! We polished it off effortlessly!

And then the mains! I ordered a bagel beef burger, the friends ordered a Étouffée gravy with rice and a country fried chicken. The bagel was very very bad. The consistency was all wrong, but beef the patty inside was pretty good! The bread was so bad that I literally had to eat only the patty! I had a feeling that they have one bread dough that is shaped into 'bagels' and 'pretzels' and what not! The étouffée gravy good, but that wasn't étouffée at all! While typically an étouffée is made with shellfish, we knew it was going to be chicken and that it will be different, but it was way too off mark. But since it tasted good, it was polished off. The last dish was the country fried chicken that was supposed to have gravy, but chicken was all wrong, didn't taste like a typical country fried chicken and the 'gravy' was like splash of thousand island dressing unlike how it is supposed to be, smothered in gravy!

We went to Tovo after that and had a good dinner!

But there was something about the place. Maybe the fact that it screamed, BREAKFAST. I went back there a couple of weeks later, on a Sunday. Late. Late brunch. OK, beyond Brunch time.  OK. OK. Yes, much later. Like LINNER time, if that is even a word. Linner time to eat breakfast. This time, we repeated the order of crumb fried zucchini and skipped all of what we had the last time. I ordered breakfast. Like banana pancakes! And loved it. It wasn't floury like it is in some places, it was stacked and the maple syrup was generous. And a roll, that had only mashed potatoes inside it. I know its kinda funny to have a mashed potato katti roll, but that is what it was and was nice. And then some brunch. I forgot the name of the minced meat with rice dish, but it was a Sunday special and was awesome!

I don't know if this place is inconsistent or if they had a bad day the first time I went or if some dishes are great and others are average! But I sort of like some dishes in this place. And the bistro ambiance. On a rainy day, the greenery outside (though it is plastic) shines through. And the great service (Sunday). The first time around, though the guy was friendly, he had almost no idea about anything on the menu and he wasn't around on Sunday.  Loved the fact that the menu price includes every thing and the bill gives the split up of the taxes.

I'll have to go again and hope that my first visit was an off day!!! But I know I will go back if I don't feel like making pancakes at home!

Iftar @ Hard Rock Cafe

I know that sounds silly. Funny maybe. Weird maybe. But after a disastrous Iftar outings thus far, when we were at Phoenix, we decided to go to HRC. I love their music. I hate their burgers. Burgers in HRC Chennai that is. 3 times was enough chance. But we decided to go anyways as we were close to HRC and very close to time to break fast. Walking in Phoenix mall didn't help containing the hunger, so.....

And we ordered a Jumbo Combo. The waiter told us that he wouldn't recommend it for two people. "Try our burgers, sir. We are having a festival," he said. "I hate your burgers," I said and he looked shell shocked. Like, "Our burgers? You hate HRC burgers?" was the look he had on his face, but didn't say anything. He managed a smile. "I've tried it thrice and your beef burgers in Chennai are dry," I said. "You can try our chicken burgers," he said. "I'd like to try your jumbo combo," I said.

And boy, wasn't I happy when it came super quick, just as we drank water to break fast. And this was a fantastic way to break fast. A bunch of onion rings, albeit oily ones, but tasty. Three rolls filled with chicken, salad and served on a salad base. Yumm! And then three boneless chicken strips, done perfectly. Gulped it down in no time. 3 super yummy baked potatoes with chicken. The menu says 'potato skins with bacon,' but they were happy to replace it with chicken for us. And then came a dish that I hate, Chicken wings, but we ate them all because they were super juicy and super yummy. Even though I don't like that cut of chicken, the coating and the flavours were super yumm!!! At Rs. 750 (Rs 600 plus taxes), this was a filling combo just right for Iftar!

I guess, I'll have to start looking at non Iftar options for a fulfilling Iftar! But I'll keep updating as I try!

The photo is not mine, so I took it off the internet from a site called Mighty Sweet!

Brew Room, Savera

Quirky cafes are slowly making their entry into Chennai and I love that! It is no more a 'when I was in Bangalore.......' phenomenon. Ah, yes! The latest entry into the bandwagon is Brew Room, cleverly adapted inside Savera Hotels, but can stand out on its own without having to rely on the hotel for clientele. And as of date, it is probably the only garden cafe in which you can actually sit on the lush green lawns. Small, quirky and eclectically set, the ambiance is a winner. The Chennai weather unfortunately, is not and so you might end up sitting in the glass interior section most of the time, but during the Chennai hot season (remember, Chennai has hot, hotter, hottest only), the outdoor will be a beautiful place to sip a hot coffee!

I was there twice in two days and I waited for a few days to write about it because of one reason; the lamb burger. Now, I am paranoid about having lamb medium. Beef, yes, I have acquired that taste and the courage, but lamb, not yet. Only and only if I am absolutely sure of the quality of lamb will I even consider it done medium, so I was not happy when after the first bite the lamb burger presented itself with varying degrees of pink. I asked the person (he wasn't a waiter, but I think he might co-own the place) and he assured me that it was very good quality lamb and they have tested it multiple time. Oh, I forgot, the first bite was heavenly. It was an excellent lamb burger and a very good price. Reluctantly I ate. Reluctant, because I was paranoid and I didn't send it back because it was perfect. Ten days late, I am still alive, so I guess it was very good quality lamb.

The first time, we had chicken sliders (essentially mini burgers) which was quite good for me and the little sweetish onion compote was a real winner below the patty, the chicken sandwich wasn't out of the world, but was good enough. The Thai ice coffee was nothing special. The second time of course was the outstanding lamb burger, a Jamaican chicken sandwich that was quite nice and a very good carrot cake to finish it off. Both times, the bill was around 1200 for two dishes, so I guess the hotel tax rates kick in, though the menu price didn't seem very high with dishes being priced around Rs. 275.

Great ambiance, good food and friendly service!

Hollywood at CPK?? Really?

Peri Peri

SPAGHETTI CARRETIERRA

Malfati

I have always found it difficult to consider California Pizza Kitchen as a restaurant and not a pizzeria. CPK is a restaurant. But their pizzas are the the ones that are the nicest. And there a few other nice things! CPK is California Pizza Kitchen. Hollywood is in California. CPK is celebrating Hollywood at CPK. Phew! Yeah, I'm slightly confused! Essentially, CPK now has a special menu till the 16th of March and the menu is fantastic!!! Honestly, this should be the regular menu at CPK, if you ask me. OK, honestly, I don't know if it represents Hollywood as you will soon find out but when I was invited by CPK to taste their special menu, I came out slightly confused!

The first pizza to arrive was the Hawaiian Pineapple and Chicken Pizza. Traditional crust, great flavour and very far away from Hollywood. Hawaii is a long flight away, but lots of Hollywood stars go there for vacation, so wonder if that is why it is there in a Hollywood festival. The next one to arrive was the Jamaican Jerk and Chicken pizza. Jamaica is a different country altogether, so it is very far from Hollywood. I quite liked the pizza. Next was the Deli styled bistro pizza. Since it had pork, I didn't have it, but those who had it were raving about it. It did look very appealing. Then came with Rustica pizza, twist on the Italian pizza with zucchini and the likes of veggies. So this is Europe and the only vegetarian pizza and the only thin crust pizza on the menu and a lovely one. Yeah, recently, I have been quite liking the vegetarian food. The last one and the best one was the Spicy Sonora pizza which had salsa and black beans and was closest to Hollywood in the menu! The pizza tasted great and unanimously we asked for another helping!!! Unanimously and shamelessly!

The next round was Pasta and the first one was a superb pasta cooked in chicken broth. There was no meat in the pasta, but it didn't matter as the flavour was wonderful. There was no Hollywood there, it was a well done Italian recipe. The vegetarian spaghettini, was bone dry and I absolutely didn't like it. I don't know if that is how it is supposed to be, but personally I didn't like it. A lot of people's personal opinion was the same! Then came the special dishes that were extremely special. A California Peri Peri chicken. I thought peri peri was more Portuguese than Hollywood, but maybe it was the Californian twist. It tasted fantastic and the plate was licked clean. Shamelessly and not unanimously, they asked for another serving. I was stuffed, so I was not part of the crime. And then came a vegetarian Malfati which I totally loved. A gnocchi styled spinach and potato Malfati with a nice side ended the (large) meal. We finished off with dessert that looked slightly Hollywoodish! A very good tasting white chocolate, strawberry and dark chocolate mousse that was served with cinnamon pita bread. OK cinnamon naan.

So the confusion. Very little was Hollywood. Or maybe there is no such thing as Hollywood and Hollywood borrows flavours from everywhere else? What is Hollywood cuisine by the way? I haven't been there, so I wouldn't know. But, except one spaghettini, everything else tasted excellent! How do I give a rating for this Food Festival?  For me, any day, taste trumps the name, ambiance and everything else, so as far as food is concerned, it was excellent!!!! I'll leave it at that!

QT Grills

United Tastes of America? Really? While the ads were quite catchy, it did catch our attention after an invite for desserts. Being with a bunch of foodies does that to you. Desserts can be followed by main course. After all, don't you eat the sweet first at a number of 'Elai Saapadus?' OK, so one night, we were a little hungry after eating desserts and after having seen the burger photo in the ad, we decided to drive down to QT grills and see what 'United Tastes of America' has to offer.

The place is quite small. The menu is a little bigger than the place. The burgers are a little larger than the menu. The burger in the photo ad is the largest. After placing the order and waiting for almost twenty minutes, during which time the waiter was no where to be seen, one foodie prompted, "looks like there is only one server and only one cooker," but after the one 'cooker' cooked the two burgers and vegetarian dish that we ordered, we were quiet.

Is it the best burger in town? Not at all. Is it a great burger for the price of Rs. 180? Hell, yeah! The beef burger was quite juicy, the sides were adequate and the taste was good. The bbq burger was just as good, but it did have a different flavour, unlike places where the patty is the same and the sauce is different. This patty tasted different! Our vegetarian friend was raving about her dish so much that we all took a bite and instantly loved it. Sorry, I forgot the name, but it was some sort of a potato steak.

Thats all we had space for and the bill was Rs. 581! Service was a little slow, but speak in Tamil with the waiter and he was more than happy to serve well. Our next table folks were speaking in Tamil to themselves and for some reason, had to speak in English to the waiter, who wasn't trained in Oxford University from the looks of it. Why can't you speak in a language that he understands?

QT Grills is in Adyar, in the service lane right behind Naidu Hall. At their prices, they are well worth trying.

Hard Rock Cafe, Chennai

The burger is dry. There. I said it. It is off my chest. Phew. *Shakes shoulders*. Let's get on with my experience now. Hard Rock Cafe, finally, opens shop in Chennai at the luxurious Phoenix Market City. A little different from Bangalore, the Rock Shop is on the ground floor and the restaurant is located in a single level at the second floor with an exclusive lift from the Rock Shop. The ambiance is very typical of any HRC, with fancy guitars adorning the walls, an exclusive performance stage and nice friendly waiters. Chennai has been missing a place like this for a long long time and personally, I love the set up. So what prevented me from giving HRC, Chennai 5 stars? This might have been the first time I would have rated any place as 5/5, but that did not happen.

So on my first visit, we ordered just three dishes, a fajita, a legendary burger and a cheesecake. The fajita was excellent with a nice round of sides and is a make-your-own-fajita type dish. There was a good serving of cheese, veggies, sour cream and a sizzler with grilled chicken. I loved it. But the burger was a let down, only in terms of the juiciness. The flavour was great, the onion ring inside was excellent, but the burger was dry. Almost bone dry. I asked for it to be medium and I felt like I need to smother it with sauces. The cheese cake was excellent. The damages were Rs. 2200, of which Rs. 1600 was for the food and the remaining for the service and the government.

My second visit was on a Thursday where there is a live band playing and the ambiance takes a whole new level. The sound quality was good, the crowd was good and if you go early you can get a seat or else, it is like a mini rock show and so the entry fee of Rs 400 of which you can redeem Rs. 250 inside is no big deal. Of course, I don't know how many were friends of the band, so it might vary everytime, but that night was excellent. I asked for the burger, hoping last time was a one-off thing and bang. It was dry. This time, even though I had specifically mentioned not to add bacon, bacon was added to the burger. Not good. But on a band night, I guess their service takes a beating.

So, Hard Rock Cafe has arrived, without alcohol for now. Just missed the mark, but that said, I hope this sets the trend for more such restaurants to come to Chennai.

4/5, could have easily been 5/5 if the burger was juicy and they did not mess up the bacon, the second time. Though I hate to say it, the HRC in Bangalore is closer to the HRC's around the world.

CHOP by Sandy and FINE DINE in Chennai

I love Sandy's on KNK Road, period. When driving around and not in the mood to experiment and I want a safe place that I know will definitely satisfy me, Sandy is one of the 'go to' places for me. During one of the food events at Fresca, I met Sandesh the owner and was fascinated by his knowledge of food and the industry. Having the fortune of meeting many chefs, food entrepreneurs and the likes, courtesy this blog, I am always on the look out for newer ideas and newer cuisines. When I heard that Sandy is coming up with a unique fine dine place in Chennai, I was more than excited.

The second time I met him, the concept of CHOP was unique - conceived as a place for extremely difficulty cooking techniques combined with the best of ingredients across the world. Alaskan Salmon and Waygu beef were supposed to be on the menu. But with the apparent lack of market for fine dining and people to appreciate them, a small place will reduce the overheads and keep the project viable till the concept picks up was supposed to be the plan! I saw someone post a picture about a main course at CHOP and it was exactly what I wanted to eat someday in Chennai. The reviews that came by stating that 'portions were small' and 'no mashed potatoes with the fish' were enough proof that maybe fine dining had finally arrived in Chennai outside of the Prego at Taj! Ok, what is this fine dine that I am talking about? I am talking about a minimum three course meal with palate cleansers. One main course will not fill you, because it is not expected to fill you. There might not be mashed potatoes because it is not designed to be there. And the meal will satisfy you, not making stuffed to the point of throwing up.

So with a heavy appetite and my tongue watering to the extent that any woman passing by thinking I was drooling at her, two of us walked into CHOP. After all this build up, imagine my disappointment when what I saw was nothing more than an extended menu from the Sandy's at KNK. Even as I write this, I can sense the disappointment creeping within me. I asked the waiter if I am in the right CHOP and he said that the menu I am looking for is 'no longer there'. When I probed further, I was told that 'people did not like that menu and portions'. I swallowed hard. Placed an order for crab cakes and a beef burger and stayed silent. Both of us were supremely disappointed.

The crab cakes arrived and it turned out to be simply outstanding. Crab cakes in most places in chennai are made with crab and binders and maybe even potatoes, but here, it was all crab. So much crab that I could actually smell the sea! The consistency suggested that they were frozen, but it did not matter. Three pieces and the disappointment started to slowly fade away! And then came the beef burger - and suddenly I was telling myself that fine dine can go to hell - this beef burger here was the best beef burger I have since I left the soil of USA! I was willing to try dessert knowing Sandy as a dessert King, but there were only three options and I went with the waiter's suggestion - a Campfire Treat. I don't know what all goes into it, but it was outstanding!!!!

Once the wonderful wonderful food settled itself into the stomach, the initial disappointment came back. Fine Dine in a small steakhouse which helps keeps the cost down without having golden walls to experience the food sounded like a good concept to me. Yes, CHOP right now is more of a steak house and a great one at that, but will we ever have the chance to experience fine dine with molecular gastronomy type cooking in Chennai? Only time will tell! I hope to meet the owner some other time and get an insight.

My experience was 4.5/5

That night I had a dream about Scuba Diving and Alaskan Salmon mocking me and another of a Waygu Beef written on a cow and it butting me!!!!

CHOP is located at TTK Road, a little beyond Bengarong (when coming from Park Sheraton), on the opposite side.

The Only Place, Bangalore

After another round of coffee at the Matteo coffee lounge on Church Street, we decided to go to The Only Place for dinner, because it came with very high recommendation from friends. So we walked down the road, then turned on Nokia maps and found our way only to realize that the place was rather packed! Since it was a little late and not having the mood to look for another place to eat, we decided to wait the ten minutes and were seated in a corner.

It's a nice little joint, with bits and pieces of greenery around, almost like a shack surrounded by a small garden. We ordered an iced tea, my friend ordered a veg lasagna, as it was his weekly day off from meat eating and sins cleansing, the other friend ordered a beef steak, thinking I will help him eat it and I ordered a Irani burger!

Food came out in about 10 minutes, but the portions were humongous. The burger was pretty large, nice soft patty, topped with grilled mushrooms and sauces which made it very very juicy. I saw a whopper burger being served to the next table and I was trying to see if it was bigger than my head! The lasagna was surprisingly good and none of us really missed meat in it, very well done, but American lasagna with the typical tomato overdose. The beef steak was super soft and juicy and made sure we did not have space for dessert.

And then the garden around the shack showed us some rats, big ones. Maybe if we saw those rats before we began our meal, we might have had second thoughts, but I hope those rats were only in the garden and not in the kitchen. Though I loved Ratatouille, the movie, I am not yet ready for a rat infested restaurant. But the food tasted great, so no complaints! The stomach did not create a fuss the following day and I didn't not get the plague or leptospirosis, so I guess the rats were only playing in the garden.

Only Place came with great recommendations from both my Chennai and Bangalore friends and it is a superb place to get huge portions of unhealthy, but tasty food! Service is decent and prices were around the Rs. 300 mark per dish on an average!

Its located just off MG road, go down the road that has the Empire Hotel and you will find it on your left.

Food 8/10
Service 8/10
Ambiance 6/10
Price 8/10
